Tulip season

From the Daily Mail.

David Shrigley

My fondness for old man decor strikes again.
Cactus planter by David Shrigley via Galerie Francesca Pia.
It's title is "The Philosopher."

Penny

I've got a Marian Bantjes original that I totally treasure.
Love her new design for a penny squishing machine.
Douglas Coupland also designed one.

Wrath ring

"And then fire shot down/
From the sky in bolts/
Like shining blades of a knife"
One of my favorite songs ever.
Ring by etsy seller donmoti.

Alma Allen

I wonder what archaeologists in the future will think of these.
Alma Allen's work must be satisfying to hold in the hand.

Grunge icon

I've noticed that people searching for grunge-era floral babydoll dresses on etsy search for "Winona"
but never for "Janeane," and that bums me out a bit.

Moi?

I doubt there's anyone at this point who still needs a tote bag,
(and I totally treasure the Chicago Manual of Style tote I got as a parting gift from my co-workers),
but this design made me smile.

Street map rug

Rug of Chinese streets and alleyways, known as hutongs 衚衕.
Reminds me of this quilt O. posted about.

Junichi Abe

New stuff from former Comme des Garcons designer Junichi Abe.
Those last two looks (minus the shoes) are exactly how I want to dress on this overcast day.
Unstructured, soft blazers to warm my heart.

Leggings

The first leggings I've wanted in a while.
By c.neeon at tres bien shop.

Feathers

By Kate McGwire vis 2 or 3 things.

In the Studio

Great pics of artists working via secret forts
I've added my hero Lee Bontecou (top).
That image is one of my faves - I like her flip flops.
Middle: Richard Serra
Bottom: Frank Stella

Wheat pasting

Jessica Alba? Wheat pasting?
When rebellion becomes cool, what are we left with? Pretension.
Via the Lost Ogle.

Izakaya

Ate here with E. last night.
I think I'm becoming an izakaya devotee.
My fave was the fried japanese peppers stuffed with spicy tuna.

Coffee clouds

By Kevin Van Aelst via eatmedaily.

One color wardrobe

Remember this awesome fashion feature from NYMag?
I think it's time to whittle my wardrobe down to 100 items again.
Last time was three years ago.
Not for any soul cleansing, just style perspective and clarity.

Another striped shirt

The obsession continues.
Not sure I'm completely feeling the waistband,
or the material composition (viscose and wool), but the sleeves are lovely.
Vivienne Westwood via net-a-porter.

One that got away

Outsniped on this Junya Watanabe skirt, worn above by Carine Roitfeld.
I would be much more upset if I wasn't so tired.
Image from thesartorialist.

Raccoon teacup

The one on the cup looks sad, probably because the one on the saucer is mean and won't share any apple.
From etsy seller LoucheLab.

Hackey sacks

Simple, perfect crochet hackey sacks from etsy seller niknod.

Binoculars

I go by these binoculars everyday (designed by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen).
I didn't realize what they depicted until O. pointed it out.

Ink and Water

By Shinichi Maruyama via dorabella.

Ai Weiwei

Even with my conflicted feelings towards contemporary Chinese art,
Ai Weiwei's work is undeniably wonderful.
The map is made from wood from destroyed Qing dynasty temples, allegedly.
I like the little Taiwan, balancing off to the side. Just had Taiwanese food here with A.K. for lunch.

Mid-century

Gorgeousness from Lost City Arts via Ouno.
